Mackintosh church gets £1m facelift

A church designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh has had a £1million revamp. Queen's Cross Church in Maryhill contains some of the iconic Glasgow architect's best work. But experts have struggled to explain the meaning behind its intricate details, including carvings of birds and bees on the communion table and chairs. Built in 1897-99, it has a special site for an organ despite no music being played in the Free Church.
