Buckfast boycott
Buckfast should be removed from the shelves of West Fife stores and off-licences, says MP Willie Rennie. He believes stopping sales of the tonic wine, popular with under-age boozers, would be a step in the right direction in tackling youth disorder. But the drink’s distributors have hit back saying Scottish politicians have “lost the plot in their calls to ban ‘Buckie’ and that other drinks are similarly abused.
Mr Rennie was speaking after a meeting with representatives of the David Sands supermarket chain, which no longer sells Buckfast.
“I feel the company is showing a very responsible attitude and concern for community issues, said the MP. “They no longer sell Buckfast and I would welcome other shops doing the same.
“There are other drinks such as alco-pops but Buckfast is the main culprit and deserves its badge on these matters.
