Former Portsoy minister takes up new role as Moray associate

Two new ministers have been welcomed to Moray Presbytery. The Rev Jim Cowie, who was born and brought up in Aberdeen, will be working as associate minister with the Rev George Rollo in Elgin, and the Rev Sheila Munro, from Stranraer, has been appointed chaplain at RAF Lossiemouth.

Mr Cowie's first charge was at Fordyce Parish Church, Portsoy, from 1978 to 1984. He then went on to ministries in the Borders, Edinburgh and Haddington, serving for four years as convener of the Church of Scotland's board of social responsibility. When his wife, Margaret, was appointed rector of Elgin Academy in January, Mr Cowie was offered the post at Elgin St Giles and St Columba's South.

Ms Munro is no stranger to the Moray area. Her parents lived at Hopeman when they first married. She was a secretary before her call to the ministry, and was assistant minister at St Leonard's, Forres, Rafford and Dallas. Her first charge was at St Johns Law, Inverkeithing, and her first RAF posting was at RAF Odiham, in Hampshire.

She spent two years at RAF Digby, in Lincolnshire, and last summer worked as hospital padre in Shaiba, Iraq.
