Free Church surplus
The Free Church of Scotland's financial position has been transformed into one of surplus. This is confirmed in the Free Church Monthly Record by their Chief Administration Officer, Rod Morrison. He states, however, that it is too early to quote precise figures as the annual accounts will not be finalised until next month at the earliest. "Nonetheless," he says, "the expectation is that the Church will show a fairly significant surplus rather than a shortfall."
A major contribution to the Church's income was a payment of expenses of over £140,000 from the Free Church of Scotland (Continuing).
These expenses relate to legal fees that the Free Church had incurred in mounting a successful defence of the action taken by the FCC against the Free Church in the Court of Session where the FCC claimed to be the true Free Church.
