Overhaul is set to cut Kirk ministries

Churches in Dumbarton and Vale of Leven are set to come together in new proposals aimed at reducing the number of ministers in the area. Two or more churches in the Vale are set to link, with similar plans on the cards for St Andrew’s Church in Bellsmyre and the West Kirk in Westbridgend.

The proposals are part of a plan outlining the future shape of the Church of Scotland in the Dumbarton area over the next 10 years. A total of six ministries look likely to go in the Dumbarton Presbytery — four of them in Dumbarton, Vale of Leven, Helensburgh and Garelochside.

The changes — which propose a reduction to 26 ministries within the next 10 years — were approved by members of Presbytery at their February meeting.
