Fury at Barshaw booze bid

Paisley families have launched a campaign to sink plans for booze to be sold at Barshaw Park because yobs who swig beer and Buckfast already use it as a drinking den.

The row has been sparked by plans for Barshaw Pavilion to be developed into a licensed cafe-restaurant.

Spokesperson Elaine McGhie said: “We have no objection to a cafe or restaurant opening in Barshaw Park – in fact, we welcome such plans – but what the place doesn’t need is somewhere selling alcohol.

“Most of the problems which already exist in the park are alcohol-related. We don’t need to encourage any more drinking there.”
