Vandals hit St Martin’s again

St Martin’s Church in Renton has been targeted by vandals for the second time in four months. Canon Jim Simcox discovered three broken windows, and glass strewn over the parking area.

When the 79-year-old priest, who suffers from osteoporosis, confronted the youths, one of them threw a bottle at him.

Canon Simcox does not believe the latest incident, which is being investigated by police, is sectarian related.

He thinks that - like previous vandalism in October - it is in revenge over the removal of a drinking den discovered by parishioners in trees at the side of the chapel.
