Nun retraces Australian saint's long journey from Lochaber

A nun has followed in the footsteps of the founder of a religious order - and has now written a book about her.

Sister Patricia Keane, of the Order of St Joseph, travelled to Lochaber from Australia.

It is a journey in reverse to that undertaken by the parents of Mother Mary MacKillop, who emigrated from the Braes of Lochaber to Australia in the 1800s.

Mary was born in Melbourne in 1842 and went on to work with deprived children, eventually founding her own Order, the Sisters of Saint Joseph.

For the past 18 months, Sister Patricia has been researching and putting together the book on Mary MacKillop, who was beatified by the late Pope John Paul at a ceremony in Sydney in 1995.

Her book - Blessed Mary MacKillop: The Scottish Connection - tells of her travels to Rome, then through Europe to Britain in 1873.
