Emmanuel Church plans new premises

A Lerwick church is hoping to break free from its confined premises in favour of a proposed multi-purpose development.

The Emmanuel Christian Fellowship has struggled to find ways of expanding its present building in Bank Lane, and church leaders hope a new and advanced facility will provide a focal point for the whole community.

The proposed development will be open to people of all ages and backgrounds, providing a useful resource for the whole town.

Church leaders recently met with members of the Lerwick Community Council to put forward a presentation on the development, which may include rooms available for conference facilities and seminars as well as holiday kids' clubs and toddler groups.

Treasurer and trustee Bob Baker said the planned move was at a very early stage, and that no concrete plans for the church have been made as yet.
