Pray it doesn't rain as march marks Pentecost

A huge outdoor day of prayer involving the area's Christians will wend its way through Edinburgh on Sunday.

The National Prayer March will gather on the Mound and weave through the Royal Mile, culminating in an outdoor event in Holyrood Park which is expected to attract several hundred worshippers.

The walk - which goes under the "connecting Scotland motto" - is timed to take place 50 days before the start of Pentecost.

As well as pipers, drummers and dancers, each participant will be given a card with a specific prayer on it to be read at various points throughout the march.

Organisers are also encouraging people to bring flags and banners of worship.

A spokesman for Connecting Scotland said: "Our desire is to lift up the name of Jesus in our nation's capital with an outdoor celebration, including walking, dance, prayer, blessing and praise."

He added: "As the first Pentecost was an outdoor event it seems fitting that this day should be marked by an outdoor gathering of the diverse and united body of Christ."
