Kirk's youth support civil partnerships

The Kirk's General Assembly was addressed on the concerns of its young membership yesterday. The Youth Assembly has taken a more liberal stance on civil partnerships than the wider church, saying it was a "legitimate exercise of freedom of conscience" and agreed "no minister or deacon should be subject to disciplinary action on the grounds that he or she has agreed or refused to perform such a ceremony".

Also, the moderator of its National Youth Assembly, Judith Taylor, told the Assembly it should call on schools "to educate on sexual abstinence as an equally valid lifestyle choice".

Iain McLarty, a delegate of the body said that "saving yourself" for marriage was an important issue for the church.
