Angelika church poised to reopen

The church where the body of murdered Polish student Angelika Kluk was discovered is to reopen to worshippers.

St Patrick's Church in Anderston, Glasgow, has been closed since last September when Ms Kluk's body was found under the floorboards. Handyman Peter Tobin, 60, was convicted last month of her rape and murder.

Church leaders said the building would reopen in August with Archbishop of Glasgow Mario Conti presiding over a special ceremony to mark the reopening.

Canon Robert Hill, the dean of the west end of Glasgow, has been appointed as the new parish priest at St Patrick's.

During the closure of St Patrick's, renovation work was carried out and the church has also been redecorated.

In an interview in Flourish, the journal of the Archdiocese of Glasgow, Archbishop Mario Conti, said: "The murder of Angelika and the recent trial have been a cause of great anguish for all of us.

"We continue to pray for those most closely involved but we must enable the parishioners of St Patrick's to move forward.

"Over the past eight months, Canon Hill has been a tower of strength for the deanery and helped guide it through a most traumatic time.

"I have every confidence that he will work tirelessly to renew the parish of St Patrick's while continuing to also serve the people of St Charles, Kelvinside."

Canon Hill hopes to bring parishioners together for Sunday Mass at a nearby chapel before St Patrick's reopens.
