Best contemporary buildings

George Kerevan selects St Bride's Roman Catholic Church in East Kilbride as Scotland's second best contemporary building.

"Post-war Scotland is internationally famous for producing architecture that was uncompromisingly artistic and romantic. Witness the series of churches produced by the practice of Gillespie, Kidd & Coia, of which St Bride's is the most famous. Here, within an apparently windowless brick interior there are no fewer than six concealed light sources."
