Cash grant saves historic church
The future of New Wellwynd Parish Church, Airdrie, is safe thanks to a grant from the Heritage Lottery FundThe award of £110,600 will pay for a new roof, allowing the congregation to continue worshipping in the 173-year-old building for many years to come.
The Rev Robbie Hamilton said: “The building, now called New Wellwynd, has had its doors open since 1834 and the congregations that came together to form it have served the community long before that.
“Receiving this grant to assist with the roof project means that the congregation will not only maintain a place of worship but also develop the work of serving the many and varied needs of the community through youth work and adult organisations."
