Grand opening for new Stornoway church
It was an evening of joy and celebration as Our Holy Redeemer Catholic Church was consecrated by Bishop of Argyll and The Isles, the Right Reverend Ian Murray, last Friday. The Dedication Mass - which saw nearly 200 parishioners and islanders attend – opened a new chapter in the history of Our Holy Redeemer, following over two years of hard work and dedication to rebuild the church which was destroyed by fire in November 2004.
Parish Priest, Father Tom Kearns – who took up position in Stornoway in March 2005 – spoke of his delight at Friday's Mass.
He said: "It was great to see the turn-out and there was a lovely atmosphere, with people moved and excited."
Father Kearns was presented with an illuminated parchment scroll from the Vatican, confirming the grant by Pope Benedict XVI of a special Apostolic Blessing for both himself and the parishioners of Our Holy Redeemer Parish.
