Tile sale and songs of praise help restore church roof
Celebrations to begin the last round of fundraising for the St Magnus' Church restoration project are about to begin. At 7pm on Sunday a "Songs of Praise" style event will take place in the church at Greenfield Place in Lerwick.
Everyone is invited to join the singing to "Raise the Roof" and to enjoy a social gathering in the hall next door afterwards. The folk at St Magnus want their neighbours and friends to see what needs to be done, and what is planned.
As the church building needs urgent restoration (including the roof being replaced) Raise the Roof is a very apt description for the evening. Eight thousand tiles for the roof are being sold at £5 each, although the generosity of the first purchasers has exceeded that amount.
