Territorials come to the aid of Compass
Visitors to a charity-run activity centre in east Perthshire will be able to take advantage of £21,500-worth of new facilities completed yesterday. The Blairgowrie-based Compass Christian Centre marked its recent 40th anniversary with a major upgrade after enlisting the help of a band of eager military volunteers.
Recruits from the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers’ Territorial Army carried out the long-awaited renovation project within the picturesque grounds of the charity’s premises over a two-week period.
Up to 25 Territorial Army personnel from the north of England undertook a variety of projects at the charity’s Glenshee Lodge after it was chosen by the battalion as its temporary training base.
Centre manager Ruth McBean told the PA that staff at the open-all-year centre were delighted with the kind gesture, which has saved an estimated £15,000 in costs.
