Falkland minister resigns

The Rev John Jarvie has resigned his post as minister at historic Falkland Parish Church in Fife.

The Church of Scotland said: "He is a part-time chaplain at Stratheden Hospital in Cupar. He has resigned his parish post of Falkland and Freuchie but he is still a minister. To stop being a minister in the church he would need to 'demit his status' and to date he has not done that."

Full story at the Sunday Mail.

The Rev Dr George Nicol writes on July 13, 2007:

"With respect to the item you took over from the Sunday Mail on the 8th July and which has just come to my attention, I should point out that Mr Jarvie resigned the linked charges of Falkland and Freuchie at the beginning of 2006. Your headline is therefore misleading. I have been minister of these parishes since the end of October 2006 and so the Falkland Minister has most certainly not resigned. We do not necessarily expect clarity or accuracy from the Sunday Mail, but an organisation such as yours should do better."
