BBC man returns home to be with his parents
Freed BBC reporter Alan Johnston arrived back in the UK yesterday and flew to Scotland to be reunited with his family.Johnston, who was held for 114 days by the Army of Islam group in Gaza, has spent the past few days at the British consulate in Jerusalem. His parents, Graham and Margaret, who campaigned for his release, live in the village of Lochgoilhead, Argyll.
During his time in captivity, the 400 villagers maintained vigils at the local church. At one gathering they received a message of support from Archbishop Desmond Tutu.
The local Church of Scotland minister, Rev Jim McFarlane, praised Johnston's mother for collecting for Christian Aid even when her son was being held in Gaza. 'I think their dignity as a family comes over,' he said.
