Six boys 'groped' by monk
A monk sexually abused six boys at Buckfast Abbey School in Devon over a 21-year period, a court heard yesterday. The Rev Paul Couch, 61, allegedly put his hands down the pyjamas or gym shorts of boys aged nine to 13 when he was a teacher at the school.
He struck in the gym, on sailing trips, as the boys sat on his lap watching TV, and while playing with the school’s model railway, Exeter Crown Court was told.
Crouch had a “dark and secret sexual personality” and the alleged crimes were “products of his sickness and wickedness”, the jury heard.
The prosecution said the offences came to light after an alleged victim went to cops.
Couch, of Plymouth, Devon, denies two serious sexual assaults and 15 indecent assaults between 1972 and 1993.
