Bail appeal for murder-accused minister
A retired Church of Scotland minister accused of murdering his elderly wife was granted bail by a sheriff yesterday. But the decision by Sheriff Brian Kearney to free the Rev Richard Coley, 70, was immediately opposed by the Crown.
A bail appeal hearing will be held at the High Court in Edinburgh on Monday and Coley will remain in custody until a decision is made.
He is charged with murdering his wife Isobella, 70 - who is thought to have been a dementia sufferer - by stabbing her at their home in Hamilton Road, Mount Vernon, Glasgow on 12 July.
Mr Coley was minister at the city's Victoria Tollcross Church until he retired in 2004.
He made no plea or declaration and was fully committed.
