Church's innovator is on the move
Rev Mitchell Bunting, better known as "Bungie", is set to perform his last service tomorrow as minister of the Augustine United Church on George IV Bridge.Bungie, 49, took up his post as the church's minister on St Andrew's Day, November 30, 1996, after previous positions in London, Birmingham, Cambridge and Israel.
The Augustine United Church is part of the United Reformed Church, which was formed in 1972.
During his time in office, Bungie has overseen extensive building work on the church tower, which was in danger of collapse. He has also helped turn the church into a lively community centre, which hosts meetings and is a Fringe venue during the festival.
He will take up a new post in Glasgow, working nationally in Scotland to develop ecumenical relations between all the branches of the Church. He will also represent the United Reformed Church in interfaith relations and in matters relating to the Scottish Parliament.
The married minister has three boys, aged from six to 15, two of whom were born in Nazareth while he was director of the Church of Scotland Sea of Galilee Centre in Israel.
