Rev Victor Charles Pogue

The youngest of five children, Victor Pogue was born on July 13, 1913, near Benburb in Northern Ireland. He left school at 14 and taught himself French and Latin, before matriculating into Magee College in Londonderry in 1929, where he trained for the Ministry of the Church. He then went on to study at Trinity College in Dublin, where he graduated with an arts degree.

In 1942, Victor married his first wife, Emmeline Houston. They moved to Scotland in May 1945, where he was ordained into the Church of Scotland. He served in Orphir, Orkney (1945-1956), Carnock and Oakley, Fife (1956-1968) and as a Baird Research Fellow (1968-1980).

Victor played an active role within the Church of Scotland. He became well-known for his work as a Baird Research Fellow in the department of education, when he was instrumental in the production of educational resources for church leaders to use in the early 1970s.

Emmeline died in 1972 and Victor married his second wife Peggy Littlewood in 1975. Following his retirement, he settled in the Fairmilehead area of Edinburgh with Peggy and joined Fairmilehead Parish Church.
