Raiders strip lead from kirk roof

Raiders stripped hundreds of pounds' worth of lead from the roof of an 18th century north-east church.

And they caused substantial damage to Cruden Old Church, on the edge of Cruden Bay, by clambering on top of it.

The picturesque kirk is the latest in a growing list of north-east premises that have been targeted by thieves hoping to make quick cash by selling stolen lead.

The kirk's minister, Rodger Neilson, declined to comment last night.
