Church names new dean and provost

Two new senior clergy in the Scottish Episcopal Church’s Brechin diocese - a new dean and provost - have been announced by the Bishop of Brechin, the Rt Rev Dr John Mantle.

The Rev Canon Ian Stewart, presently rector of St Mary and St Peter’s Episcopal Church, Montrose, has been appointed dean of the diocese to succeed the Very Rev Robert Breaden, who retired last week.

Mr Stewart has served the church in this area for more than 22 years, and takes up his post immediately. The office will run concurrently with his ministry in Montrose.

The dean’s duties include administrative and pastoral work among local clergy and congregations.

The Rev Lindsay McKenna, at present vicar of All Saints, Hansworth, Middlesex, has been appointed the new provost of the Cathedral Church of St Paul in Dundee. He hopes to take up office as early as possible next year.

Mr McKenna has been in the church for more than 20 years. He began his ministry in Dundee, originally with the Church of Scotland and later as assistant curate at St Mary’s Episcopal Church, Broughty Ferry.
