Free Church first

Rev David Karoon has become the first Arran-based minister to represent the Free Church on North Ayrshire Council's education executive.

Rev Karoon, who was inducted to Arran Free Church of Scotland in November last year, was nominated to sit on the committee by the elders at his church and was one of three nominations considered for the position.

He now joins a representative of the Church of Scotland and the Roman Catholic Church on the executive to advise on religious education and biblical matters.

Rev Karoon, who is originally from Singapore, said: 'I think it is an important position because the council makes important decisions on very difficult matters and I consider it a great privilege voted onto the executive.

'I don’t have any particular objective but I will be giving the Christian or biblical point of view.'
