Baptists' bid to expand is thwarted
Parking problems have thwarted a north-east church's plans to expand. Peterhead Baptist Church tabled proposals to increase the size of its main place of worship on King Street.The congregation were keen to build a new hall for up to 342 churchgoers as well as new kitchens and toilets, and provide disabled parking.
The aim was not to alleviate overcrowding in the existing hall, but to provide more services for the local community throughout the week.
But residents complained it would lead to major parking problems. Some said it would cause further traffic congestion, claiming it was very hard to park near the church during a Sunday service.
Earlier this week, local councillors backed objectors and planning officers by rejecting the church's application for planning consent.
