Pregnant waif used for Christmas message

A Kirk minister used shock tactics to bring home the true message of Christmas. The Reverend Graeme Longmuir hired an actress to wander into his church service as a pregnant, homeless waif.

Some parishoners were reduced to tears when she said no one had offered to take her in, before leaving after a few minutes.

It was only at the end of the service at St Andrew's Parish Church, Inverurie, Aberdeenshire, that the incident was revealed as a hoax.

Actress Pamela Barrie was brought in to help deliver a hardhitting message.

The Rev Longmuir said the homeless image was a key element of the Christmas story.

He said: "I hope I have disturbed people. But I wouldn't like to think I have distressed them."
