Aberdeen church is bought by Christian group
When it was put on to the property market, many feared Aberdeen's Holburn Central Church would be the latest place of worship to be transformed into a bar or flats. However, a Christian group has intervened to ensure that the church will remain a house of God.Despite reported interest from commercial bodies looking to convert the building, the successful bidder was Jesus House Aberdeen, a branch of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG).
According to its website, Jesus House Aberdeen saw off challenges from 19 developers, and expressed confidence in raising the purchase price of £1.1million.
A statement on the organisation's website said: "Visiting Aberdeen, you will see magnificent church buildings now turned to pubs, casinos, nightclubs and restaurants.
"But we thank the Lord because the magnificent former Holburn West Church of Scotland, right in Aberdeen's city centre, will remain as a place of worship."
RCCG is a full gospel, Bible-believing, Pentecostal worldwide church. There are more than 340 RCCG churches in the UK and Ireland, with 12 in Scotland and three in Aberdeen.
