Burnfoot man bought booze for 14-year-old

A 19-year-old first offender who bought alcohol for a 14-year-old, had sentence deferred until February 28 for reports.

"If it takes custody to sort this problem, then that is what will happen," Sheriff Kevin Drummond warned.

At Jedburgh Sheriff Court last Thursday, Stephen Walsh, of Queens Drive, admitted acting as an agent for a 14-year-old in the purchase of a bottle of Buckfast at Londis store in Sadbed Post Office, on November 16.

Procurator fiscal Viki Welton said: "Police were on plain clothes patrol, targeting under-age drinkers, and saw the 14-year-old and others in the park,"

"Between them they had five bottles of Buckfast, and all were under-age except the accused."
