Kirk welcomes government's 'Gift Aid gift'

The Church of Scotland has welcomed the good news on Gift Aid in this week's Budget. The Chancellor's decision to continue to allow charities to reclaim tax at the present rate after the basic rate of income tax reduces to 20p in the pound next month means that congregations in the Church of Scotland will not lose the £1.2 million per year which was anticipated. Every £100 given to the Kirk will continue to be worth £128 when tax is recovered.

Gift Aid is currently worth £11 million to Church of Scotland congregations.
