Tribute paid after retired priest dies

TRIBUTE has been paid to retired Roman Catholic priest, Fr John Fitzsimmons, who died at Inverclyde Royal Hospital on Saturday.

Fr Fitzsimmons (68) lived in Gourock in his retirement and had continued until recently presenting on BBC Radio Scotland’s The Greetings programme on Sunday mornings.

He was ordained in 1963 served as curate at St Patrick’s Church, Greenock, and as parish priest at St John Bosco Church in Erskine. He was also rector of the Pontifical Scots College in Rome and taught at the former St Peter’s College in Cardross.
