African minister at Bettyhill kirk
The three-year vacancy in the Church of Scotland parish of Altnaharra and Farr, centred on Bettyhill, has been temporarily filled by a minister from the other side of the world. The Rev Fanus Erasmus, who hails from South Africa, will be resident in the manse over the next three months.
Fanus, short for Stefanus, is a currently a minister of the Dutch Reformed Church in the busy town of Bethlehem in the Free State. His present South African congregation consists of 850 adult and 200 child members, so settling in to the church at Bettyhill with its 30 members plus 40-or-so adherents should not be difficult.
