Kirk urged to hand over redundant manse for villagers

Church officials who have put a manse and adjoining land on the market for more than £225,000 have been urged to hand it over to villagers for a nominal charge to help regenerate their remote community.

The redundant manse at Lochaline on the Morvern peninsula has been put up for sale by the Church of Scotland at offers over £196,000, with bids topping £60,000 invited for an adjoining building plot.

But one prominent member of the community, Iain Thornber, says it would be a “gracious act” by kirk trustees if they were to return both to villagers “for the long-term benefit of the parish of Morvern”.
