Parents of stabbed teenager condemn murder sentence

The parents of a 17-year-old who was stabbed by another teenager because he was "in the wrong place at the wrong time" have condemned the 13-year sentence handed out to the killer.

Andrew and Marilyn Mitchell said justice had failed them after Alan Dewar, 18, was jailed [at the High Court in Glasgow] for the murder of their son Joshua.

Lord Hodge told him: "You consumed a significant quantity of Buckfast and valium and you took out your frustration in a chilling way at the wholly innocent Mr Mitchell.

"Alcohol abuse lies behind another pointless tragedy. You appear to be at ease with the use of violence."

Full story at the Daily Telegraph.

Buckfast Tonic Wine is made by the Roman Catholic Community of Benedictine monks at Buckfast Abbey in Devon, and distributed by J. Chandler & Co (Buckfast) Ltd of Andover.
