Crunch takes toll on Buckfast

The credit crunch has taken its toll on Buckfast, it was reported today.

The tonic wine, renowned for its strength and affordability – has increased in price by ten per cent. Made by monks, the wine will now cost £6.29 a bottle.

Distributors are reported to have blamed the current financial climate for the price hike.

A spokesman said: "Our wine comes from Europe, so the Euro affects it. You have also got all the added fuel costs and the price of raw materials going up."

Full story at the Edinburgh Evening News.

Buckfast Tonic Wine is made by the Roman Catholic Community of Benedictine monks at Buckfast Abbey in Devon, and distributed by J. Chandler & Co (Buckfast) Ltd of Andover.
