Sneak preview of Pictish stones exhibition

An Angus museum opened its doors yesterday to offer a sneak preview of some of the county’s early Christian treasures.

More than 30 carved Pictish stones were on view at St Vigeans Museum, near Arbroath.

The museum is being refurbished by Historic Scotland and opened for one day only.

The project is due to be completed in April.

The heritage agency has also carried out a major conservation of the stones and fresh research has shed new light on the history of St Vigeans village itself.
